class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Omnipresente en lo alto de la Sierra de Vernissa, la fortaleza domina toda la Costera. Por su ubicaci\u00f3n estrat\u00e9gica fue escenario de varios conflictos b\u00e9licos a lo largo de su historia, tuvo protagonismo durante las campa\u00f1as de An\u00edbal y en el periodo de Al-\u00c1ndalus, as\u00ed como en conflictos en la \u00e9poca del Reino de Valencia: en las guerras contra Castilla, en las de German\u00edas y en la de Sucesi\u00f3n.<\/p><p>Su imponente arquitectura est\u00e1 declarada Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad. A pesar de sus ra\u00edces ib\u00e9ricas y romanas, la mayor\u00eda de las murallas y torres conservadas son de origen isl\u00e1mico o g\u00f3tico. Una vez en X\u00e0tiva, es esencial hacer un recorrido por esta fortaleza, desde donde se pueden ver espl\u00e9ndidas vistas panor\u00e1micas de la ciudad y la comarca de la Costera.<\/p><p>El recinto se encuentra dividido en el <strong>Castillo Menor<\/strong> y el <strong>Castillo Mayor<\/strong>, unidos por una doble l\u00ednea de class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>El Castillo Menor , orientado hacia levante y erigido sobre la pared de la Pe\u00f1a Roja, es la parte m\u00e1s antigua del recinto, remont\u00e1ndose sus or\u00edgenes a \u00e9poca \u00edbera y romana. Desde su estrat\u00e9gica posici\u00f3n se pod\u00eda controlar la V\u00eda Augusta.<\/p><p>Destacan dos puertas con arco apuntado g\u00f3tico. La primera se denomina <strong>puerta de An\u00edbal<\/strong>, pues cuenta la leyenda que, durante la Segunda Guerra P\u00fanica, el general cartagin\u00e9s entr\u00f3 en el Castillo por este acceso. El actual no pertenece a aquella \u00e9poca, sino al siglo XV. La <strong>segunda puerta<\/strong> se construy\u00f3 en el siglo X, durante la \u00e9poca andalus\u00ed, como demuestra la planta en forma de L, aunque se restaur\u00f3 en el siglo XV.<\/p><p>Destaca, en el \u00e1ngulo de la muralla, <strong><em>La torre de l&#8217;Esper\u00f3<\/em><\/strong>, una torre medieval cuadrada recientemente recuperada que sirve de mirador y todav\u00eda conserva una base de siller\u00eda romana. As\u00ed mismo, sobre un promontorio en la parte superior del Castillo Menor se encuentra la torre de la reina <strong>Himilce<\/strong>, casada con el general An\u00edbal para sellar la alianza entre \u00edberos y cartagineses. Del balc\u00f3n neog\u00f3tico que se encontraba en este lugar \u00fanicamente se conserva la apertura, que brinda unas excelentes vistas del Castillo Despu\u00e9s de la conquista cristiana del rey Jaume I, se convirti\u00f3 en la principal fortaleza de defensa en el camino entre Castilla y la capital del Reino de Val\u00e8ncia.<\/p>\n<p>La <strong>puerta del Socorro<\/strong> es el acceso posterior del Castillo y se abre al valle de Bixquert. Su nombre evoca la revuelta de las German\u00edas en el siglo XVI, cuando el se\u00f1or de Sumac\u00e0rcer y l&#8217;Alc\u00fadia, Llu\u00eds Cresp\u00ed de Valldaura, solicit\u00f3 auxilio antes de ser asesinado por los <em>agermanats<\/em>, miembros de las clases populares que protagonizaron la rebeli\u00f3n. Otra puerta del Castell Mayor es la de <strong>Santa Mar\u00eda<\/strong>, de factura musulmana y reconstruida en el siglo XV.<\/p>\n<p>La fortificaci\u00f3n tambi\u00e9n fue utilizada como prisi\u00f3n de Estado \u2013<strong>prisi\u00f3n oscura<\/strong>\u2013 de la antigua Corona de Arag\u00f3n, pasando por sus mazmorras personajes tan ilustres como Jaume d&#8217;Urgell, que se rebel\u00f3 sin \u00e9xito tras ser descartado como candidato a la corona de Arag\u00f3n en el Compromiso de Caspe.<\/p>\n<p>Uno de los pocos edificios medievales que se conservan \u00edntegros en el Castillo Mayor es la <strong>capilla g\u00f3tica de Santa Mar\u00eda<\/strong>, construida en 1431 por mandato de la reina Mar\u00eda de Castilla. Se trata de un peque\u00f1o templo de planta rectangular, una sola nave cubierta mediante bovedas de crucer\u00edas y sacrist\u00eda. Su interior acoge los restos de Jaume d&#8217;Urgell, que muri\u00f3 preso en 1433.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4e379b1
