X\u00e0tiva<\/strong>, known as the city of a thousand fountains, it is the capital of la Costera region. It is located between the Albaida<\/em> river basin and its tributary the C\u00e0nyoles<\/em> river. Crowned by its magnificent Castle <\/strong><\/a>is located its historical and monumental urban area.<\/p>

X\u00e0tiva has played a fundamental role in the history of the region: it was the episcopal seat in Visigoth times, it lived through a splendor period during the Muslim domination, and after the Christian conquest it became the second city of the kingdom.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Its streets have witnessed important and dramatic events, such as the one that occurred during the Spanish Succession War, where Felipe V ordered the city to be burned and razed due to its loyalty to the Habsburgs, even changing its name to San Felipe, a fact that has remained engraved in the memory of the Setabenses, known since then as socarrats<\/em><\/strong>, which is translated as charred. As a symbolic revenge, the portrait of Felipe V<\/strong><\/em> located in the Museum of Fine Arts<\/strong><\/a>, has been upside down<\/strong> since the middle of the 20th century.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Bellveret<\/strong> <\/em><\/a>or la Costa del Castell<\/em><\/strong> were once the space of the Iberian, Roman, Visigothic, Arab and Christian X\u00e0tiva. An open space that invites you to calmly visit places such as the Sant Josep<\/strong> and Sant Feliu <\/em><\/a>hermitages<\/strong>, one of the oldest in the Kingdom of Valencia.<\/p>

The X\u00e0tiva cultural heritage is immense, its old nucleus was declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1982. It is a must to visit The Royal Hospital<\/strong><\/a>, an icon of Valencian civil architecture from the 16th century, where the Borgia space is located; the Santa Maria Collegiate Basilica<\/strong><\/a><\/em> and very close to the old Dominican convent of Sant Dom\u00e8nec<\/strong>.<\/p>

The epicenter of the medieval city is located in the Pla\u00e7a de la Trinitat <\/em><\/strong>(Trinitat square), surrounded by historical buildings such as the Palau d’Alarc\u00f3n<\/strong><\/em> (Alarc\u00f3n Palace) from the 18th century, the Convent of the Trinitat<\/em><\/strong> from the 14th century and the Royal Monastery of Santa Clara<\/strong> founded in the 14th century. On Carrer Montcada <\/strong>(Montcada street), the nobility built their palaces, and their stone fa\u00e7ades, heraldic shields, and wrought-iron and ceramic balconies are still preserved today.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

We can delve into the history of the city by visiting its interesting museums: the Museum of Fine Arts<\/strong><\/a>, which has one of the most important public pictorial collections in the Valencian Community, with works by Ribera, Goya, Vicente L\u00f3pez, Santiago Rusi\u00f1ol, Benlliure and Antoni Mir\u00f3, among many others; the Museum of the Collegiate Church<\/strong>, with an important collection of sacred art and outstanding examples of goldsmithing related to the liturgy and the Borgia family; and the Almod\u00ed Museum<\/strong><\/a>, where pieces ranging from the first vestiges of the Paleolithic to the times when it belonged to the lands of Al-\u00c0ndalus are exhibited.<\/p>

One of the main tourist attractions is the Castle<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, a double fortress with Iberian and Roman roots that stands as one of the most visited monuments in the Valencian Community. It already had a leading role during the An\u00edbal campaigns and in the Al-\u00c0ndalus period. It consolidated its importance in the time of the Kingdom of Valencia, in the wars against Castile, in those of Germanies<\/em> and in the Succession, as well as being the prison of illustrious convicts.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
